Most people think that protection training means "attack" training and that you end up with a
vicious dog that is a liability in a family setting. With our methods protection means just that -
protection. A dog cannot protect you or your family unless it can go anywhere you go and is well
enough behaved that it is welcome everywhere. When we train a protection dog we start with an
incredibly strong foundation in obedience and socialization. Until your dog is 100% social
(friendly) and obedient we wonšt even start the protection aspect of the training.
Our methods teach your dog to recognize aggressive behavior and violence and to react to it in
such a controlled manner as to stop the aggressor without anger or fear. Your dog is merely
protecting his "pack." A protection trained dog is strong and courageous and has the confidence
to stand up to a man who means to harm you or your family. He reacts only to violence or to command
and is otherwise just the same family pet he's always been. No one would ever know your dog is
trained for protection unless someone is unwise enough to threaten harm to you or your family.
Not all dogs are capable of becoming protection dogs. We offer free evaluations to find out if your
dog has what it takes for this kind of work. During the evaluation, we will test your dog's
personality and genetic behaviors to see if this type of training would be worthwhile for you to
pursue. Protection training is a long process and is not to be taken lightly. It can take the better
part of a year for some dogs to master these skills. A protection dog gives you peace of mind knowing
youšve done all you can to protect your family when your not there to do it yourself.
Our protection programs are individually tailored to your situation and your dog's personality and
genetics. We teach your dog using the exact same principles that we use when training the master
protection aspect of a police dog training program. Your dog will learn a silent "watch" command
that alerts him to a dangerous situation but does not allow him to show aggression. He will also
learn a "watch" command that alerts him and encourages him to show controlled aggression. Your dog
will learn a command to grip and hold the aggressor until the aggressor submits and your dog will
learn a command to relinquish control of the aggressor. Your dog will also learn a command to cease
all aggression and accept attention from anyone he is told to accept. Your dog will learn all this
and yet retain the same personality he had before he started training. As unlikely as it sounds, a
protection dog is less likely to bite than an untrained dog because he understands aggressive
behavior and has the confidence to deal with it.
